 Program Overview   study in america

The Business Department at D'Youville College is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education and offers majors in management, accounting and international business.

A Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in management prepares students for careers as entrepreneurs or management specialists in private industry, government, financial institutions, management consulting firms or in private practices. Because this is a broad occupation, many openings occur each year and, with the expansion of this market, the demand for management personnel in the high technology industry will continue to grow at a rapid pace. Employment of management personnel is expected to grow as fast as the overall economy through the year 2008.

The core curriculum of the program consists of 18 foundation courses as well as specialized coursework in management, marketing, financial management, human resources management, decision making, organizational behavior and business strategy.

A Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Accounting provides career opportunities in public accounting, private industry accounting, government and not-for-profit accounting and financial services.

The five-year degree program is designed to equip students for employment in a wide range of occupations and to prepare them to sit for the certified public accountancy examination. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), duties may include accounting, auditing, tax work, and consulting for corporate, government, and non-profit clients as well as individuals. This student will attain a BSc Accounting and an MSc in International Business in this new CPA program.

In this program, students complete specialized coursework in intermediate and advanced accounting, auditing, corporate finance, personal and corporate taxation, and not-for-profit accounting.

D'Youville also offers a five-year dual degree in international business, which combines specialized training in key aspects of the global workplace with a strong background in foreign language, communication, ethics and interpersonal skills. As a significant portion of the economy's growth is of a global nature, there is a need for qualified managers who understand diverse cultures and languages with multinational skills in economics, finance, sales, market research, communications and accounting.

The program curriculum consists of a minimum of 18 courses and, after graduating, students will be ready to pursue worldwide employment with multinational companies, international financial institutions, government agencies, management consulting firms, trading or transportation companies and colleges or universities.

D'Youville College also offers an Advance Program, an adult completion program, which can be completed in 18 months. By attending class one day a week, the student should have approximately 60 credits and attain a BSc in Business Management.

The college recently signed an agreement with Greek and Hungarian Institutes to create a cross-cultural language program for students in both institutions.

The exercise and sport studies (ESS) program challenges undergraduate students to study the many various dimensions of competitive sports and physical activity in society. The ESS bachelor of science degree program assists students in developing the knowledge base to understand how health, physical activity and social factors relate to exercise and sport. In addition, the ESS program provides students with a comprehensive array of course and practical experiences that will allow for the exploration and better understanding of exercise and physical activity in today's society. For those wishing to complement their existing academic area of study (such as physical therapy and dietetics), or want to expand their knowledge of ESS, a minor in ESS is also offered.
