 Program Overview   study in america

D'Youville College (D'Youville) offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).

Physical therapists work with patients who are functionally impaired from injuries or disease. The physical therapist's role is to assist these individuals to regain function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities. Graduates of D'Youville's DPT program will be prepared for physical therapy practice in a variety of settings.

In clinical settings, physical therapists assess patient or client needs from a perspective of physical function taking into account medical history, social support and the individual. Physical therapists work with patients to test, measure and improve strength, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration and motor function.

D'Youville's 3-year doctoral program is organized as a 12-month curriculum, allowing students to enter practice in a minimum of time.

108 credit hours are required for the DPT degree. DPT students participate in practicums. Students are able to choose from over 300 clinical sites in North America and abroad for fieldwork and clinical experience placements. Internet discussion runs concurrently with clinical fieldwork experiences so that students always have a connection to the faculty, regardless of where they choose to do their fieldwork.

Currently licensed Physical Therapists seeking to upgrade their degree from an MPT to a DPT may be eligible for admission into the Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program. This 22 credit hour program offers entry in Spring, Summer or Fall.
