 Program Overview   study in america

D'Youville College (D'Youville) offers a Master of Science (MS) degree in Health Services Administration (HSA). The graduate level HSA program is intended for those who wish to pursue planning and leadership roles as health policy analysts, program planners and evaluators, health services researchers and managers in the private sector, government and non-profit organizations.

The 42-credit program can be completed in two years with full-time attendance or three-four years part-time. Currently, 52 students are enrolled and all are employed while completing the program. A systems approach to solving health care problems enables students to function in a rapidly changing health care environment. The faculty practice in health care settings and have collaborative relations with all aspects of health care, acute care, ambulatory and home care.

Students are provided with a solid knowledge base for management practice, including an understanding of the interactions between administration, economics, medicine and politics. Decision-making, critical thinking and small group communications are among other skills students develop. Electives allow for further exploration and mastery of topics of personal interest, which may include health services consulting, aging in America, and management in extended care facilities.

The HSA program connects to the Western New York community through internships and partnerships. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty in projects with area Health Care organizations. These partnerships enable students to work side by side with health care leaders as they learn first hand how to bridge the gap between theory and practice. In addition students work in a variety of health care settings through the fulfillment of the internship requirement.

Graduate students also participate in a practicum, giving the opportunity for the application of theories and principles of classroom learning in an area of the health care system. There is a requirement of 3 credit hours (120 clock hours) of fieldwork under the supervision of a qualified preceptor and program faculty.
