Rapid changes in the global economy and the explosive growth in international trade and investment, make it necessary for managers to understand foreign business practices, to effectively manage cultural differences and have the ability to communicate in foreign languages.
International Studies
The 39-credit master's of science degree program in international business, which is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), combines specialized training in international business with a strong foundation in a foreign language, research, communication, ethics and interpersonal skills. Students combine theoretical and practical knowledge through field-work experiences, which include business internship opportunities at US multinational corporations and abroad.
The master's degree in international business is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree and wish to pursue an advanced study of international business. After graduating, D'Youville students will be equipped to pursue worldwide employment opportunities with multinational companies, international financial institutions, government agencies, management consulting firms, trading or transportation companies, and colleges or universities.
Course of Study
The program can be completed in four semesters if pursued on a full-time basis (nine–12 credit hours per semester). Part-time students generally register for 6 credit hours per semester. In the first year, courses include international economics & finance, international negotiation & communication, theory development, international management, multinational corporate finance, international marketing & research. The second year comprises courses in legal environment in international business, global supply, international business fieldwork, multinational strategic management and multinational financial reporting. These are in addition to two research projects.
During the program, a minimum of three-nine credit hours of field work experience in an international business environment in the US or abroad must be completed. The amount of credit hours required is determined by the director of the international business program, and based upon the length and type of any previous internship or professional experience. Four semesters of college-level courses or fluency in a modern foreign language (other than English) must be fulfilled prior to the completion of the program.
